science and religion

Ever since man learned civilization,he followed a religion of his own and simultaneously he made scientific investigation to answer several questions.Science and religion are the two important parts of his life that made his life more comfortable and more disciplined and righteous.
        Religion teaches him good behavior ,mercy,tolerance,peace,righteousness,humanity,and spirituality and guides him to lead a sacred,systematic and disciplined life,whereas science helps him to find answers for his curiosity over several things in the creation by developing logical thinking.
Both science and religion are so intertwined in the life of a man that  he cannot imagine a life without these.Every man identifies himself with one religion or other.Even an atheist,who doesn't believe in God, follows a righteous path and has no answer on how and when breath or life enters a body and how ,where and when it leaves the body.Religion is invented by man only to make him lead a righteous and well disciplined life.Science is a part of every day life of everybody.Science uses logical reasoning and seeks to interpret with proofs and evidences.Religion,though apparently shows no reasoning for a particular practice or belief ,there is certainly a scientific thought behind it.
         Ever since man started his life on earth, he came to know that the Sun and rain ,are essential for his existence on earth.So he started expressing his gratitude by worshiping the Sun God and the rain God.He realized that plants and trees feed him to make his existence possible on earth.So he worshiped trees and plants with reverence.[Hindus worship Basil or Tulasi, peepal ,Baniyan ,Amla (Emblica officinalis)and many more trees] The trees and plants have scientific importance too.Many of the plants and trees have medicinal values.For example Turmeric ,Basil,Aloe vera  and Amla are used in medicines and also in  cosmetics .
        Several religious practices have their scientific significance too.Both science and religion are complex social and cultural endeavors that vary across cultures. Fasting is observed by Muslims christians and Hindus on holy days.Though it is a religious practice ,there is a scientific truth behind it.According  to  Ayurveda ,an ancient Indian medical science,the cause of many diseases is toxic material accumulated in the digestive system.By fasting,digestive system gets rest and all body mechanisms are cleansed.
      Hindus wear tilak on their forehead,between the two eyebrows.This spot is a major nerve point in our body,where agna chakra,is situated.This point is considered to be the seat of soul.applying the red tilak between the eyebrows is believed to keep energy in the body and control different levels of concentration.

There is another practice of applying Mehandi to the hands and feet ,during Indian weddings.Mehandi not only lends orange color but also cools the body and prevents   

             the nerves from becoming tense.                                                                                                         .

           Mehandi has got tremendous medicinal properties.The scientific truth behind applying
           mehandi is to get the benefit of its medicinal properties.
          Mostly in Hindu culture,several practices have been adopted with an in depth knowledge of
          science.Though apparently,they seem to be mere customs but there is an in depth scientific                   reason behind them.To quote a few folding  hands[namaskar] to greet a person instead of                             shaking  hands,stimulates the pressure points at the tips of all the fingers connected to
          different body parts,sitting on the floor cross legged [sukhasan] while eating lunch or dinner               helps digestion,worshiping peepal tree is to recognize its unique feature of producing oxygen               even at night,   sleeping with the head towards north signifies that if we sleep with the head                towards north, our body's magnetic field becomes asymmetrical to the earth's magnetic field
        causing high blood pressure and heart diseases  The ancient Indian sages had tremendous                     knowledge of all biological and physical sciences and introduced certain religious practices

Domestic violence.

In recent years there is  a most popular and much talked about word in circulation, that is "Domestic violence".The word has a wider meaning.but it is not well defined.countries have made laws to protect people from domestic violence.Yet there is no control on this matter.
Unfortunately women are the victims,even in this so called civilized and modern world.In fact there is an increasing rate in domestic violence.There is no clear cut meaning or definition for it.It is manifold.The person who bears it only knows what it is.
Emotional black mailing,physical atrocities,mental torture,financial exploitation, curtailing freedom etc.are few examples for domestic violence against women.There are two common reasons for this domestic violence.The first one is dependence of women on men financially and the second one is women are physically weak compared to men and are more sensitive.
In India most of the domestic violence cases are for dowry.In most of the cases financial problems are the main reasons.

 To tackle the problem, no law will help women.The problem may aggravate ,if  a woman approaches police  for protection Because the problem is purely interpersonal.Every woman must have financial independence to solve this problem and to protect herself.She should be self sufficient to support herself and her children
A good educational background is a must for every woman so that her illiteracy would not be a cause of her exploitation.
She should be emotionally strong and balanced to face any situation.
Every girl child should be encouraged not to depend on any one for any reason ,financial or otherwise.
Domestic violence is not a problem that can be solved by any third person or law.the victim herself  should  develop an attitude to solve the problem herself.
